Trout is at the far side of the faster water between you and has positioned itself in calmer water. A tricky situation where having a bit of extra slack in the front and one or two extra seconds of drag-free drift is the key to success.
The Super Dry leader can be used in several ways and is highly customizable. You can just add a tippet of your preferred length and dimension. Or you can add a tippet ring and tip. Or you can even shorten the 80cm long tip and add down-tapering sections to lengthen the taper of this leader. This is a leader made for technical fishing and fishermen who enjoy optimizing their leader. For us, it’s a go-to leader for the “flats” in larger rivers that demand long drifts to avoid alerting the trout to your presence.
Taper Profile
The leader is built up with: Butt – 44% (200 cm / 6.6 ft), Taper – 39% (177 cm / 5.6 ft), Tip – 17% (80 cm / 2.8 ft). The butt section is 0.50 mm (0.020 in), which is a versatile dimension for all line weights used for dry fly fishing. This slightly finer butt and taper give a good balance of speed and turnover, making it easier to control the slack in the front. However, if you speed things up, this leader can deliver straight-line presentations with dry flies on still water.
