Standard leaders are a great choice for the less proven angler and when you don’t require super long leaders. This type of leader fits most of the scenarios we encounter excellent and is ready to use as is. The taper on these leaders features 40% butt section, 35% taper and 25% tippet. Thickness of butt sections vary with the tippet size and are selected to be optimal for the different line weights. This ensures a good transmit of power to the tippet and makes presentations easy.
I you want to customize this leader we like to use a 3 or 4X variant for dry fly fishing, cut of a bit of the tippet, around 30-40cm, add our 2mm tippet ring and then attach 1-1,5m of tippet in a lower dimension. This gives you versatility for different tippet sizes and flies.
